Champions League places and the drop to the Championship

Twenty clubs chase three separate targets on the Premier League log table. The top four earn Champions League football next season, and fifth place joins them in years when English clubs win the extra European spot.

The sides just below those places go into the Europa League and the Conference League. At the foot of the log, the bottom three are relegated to the Championship, and three clubs from that division replace them.

Each row has a coloured edge for the zone it holds right now. The colours come from the league’s own qualification notes and shift when a domestic cup final hands a European place to another club.

Across 38 rounds, a four-point cushion above 18th place disappears in two bad weekends. Watch the Pts column for the gap to the next colour, up or down.

Reading the EPL log: points, goal difference and games in hand

Every club meets the other 19 twice, once at home and once away, which makes 38 league matches each. A win is worth three points, a draw one and a loss nothing.

Two clubs on the same points are separated by goal difference first, and by goals scored after that. On the last day, a single goal in the GD column is enough to move a club across a coloured edge.

The P column shows how many matches each club has played. After a cup week or a postponed fixture, a club with a game in hand sits lower than its points potential, so compare P before reading any gap.

Form sits on the right with the last five league results, oldest first. A run of W W W D W tells you more about Saturday than the full season total does.

Premier League log today and the weekend’s games in SAST

England runs two hours behind SAST in the northern winter and one hour behind from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October. A 15:00 Saturday start in England is 17:00 here in winter and 16:00 in summer.

Saturday games are spread from about 13:30 to 19:30 SAST across the year, and Sunday games sit between 15:00 and 18:30. Each final score feeds the log within 30 minutes, so the Saturday picture is complete by late evening.

Relegation, top four and tie-break questions

What is the Premier League log standing today?

The log at the top shows it. The standings refresh every half hour while a round is being played, so each final score shows up quickly.

How many clubs go down from the Premier League?

Three. The clubs in 18th, 19th and 20th drop to the Championship at the end of the season.

Can a fifth English club reach the Champions League?

Yes, in seasons when English clubs earn the extra European spot. In other seasons only the top four qualify through the league.

What separates EPL clubs on the same points?

Goal difference comes first. If that is level too, the club with more goals scored ranks higher.

What time do Saturday Premier League games start in SAST?

Between about 13:30 and 19:30, as England changes its clocks in late March and late October. Sunday games run from 15:00 to 18:30 SAST.
